| SONS OF THE SOD are a Wolverhampton-based trio with a wide repertoire of traditional Irish, Scottish, English and American songs and tunes,
complemented by their own distinctive compositions.
Gerry Quinn, Wolverhampton-born leading singer and instrumentalist
(mandolin, cittern, banjo and whistle), comes from a Co Longford family background and acquired an early love of traditional music. Over the
years he has built a formidable collection of songs, including many rare gems.
Pete Hepworth (vocals, guitar and harmonica) is
from York. Early influences were the big bands of the 1940s, with the advent of skiffle providing an introduction to American folk music and thence its
British and Irish antecedents.
Alun Davies (vocals, guitar, whistle and harmonica), from Dudley, is a highly versatile and knowledgeable performer at home with a wide range of material.
The Sons favoured habitat is the shared atmosphere of the pub session, whether at home or on their frequent travels.
What they play:
Gerry Quinn: Vanden mandolin; Graham Pugh cittern
Pete Hepworth: Gibson L00
Alun Davies: Takamine EG5
